A Day On The Mountain!

Eric, Heather, Emma, and Henry are visiting from California! We spent the morning with them up at the mountain playing in the snow at Government Camp. This was the first time Emma has been in the snow! It was cold and the snow was coming down quite a bit! The girls enjoyed a mini sled ride and threw a few snowballs. I had fun snapping some pictures.
We stopped at a little place called Zig Zag Cafe for lunch on the way down the mountain. The girls had fun entertaining themselves by dancing with a scarf and
looking out the window at a little stream.
Emma, snug as a bug.

Madison was very brave sledding down this hill!

Cannon Beach Spring Break 2012

We went down to the coast for the 1st week of Spring Break. Peyton and Madison both had the flu at different times during the week. So, needless to say, we had some fun moments but we also had a lot of sitting around reading, watching movies and taking extra naps. On a few of the days, in between the girls passing the flu to one another, we had a couple of "nice" days. "Nice" days had dry moments and a few sun breaks. The majority of the days we sat inside and watched the rain blow sideways, heard the hail pound on the roof, and felt the power of the thunder...which shook the house. It was quite the display of weather which we have come to expect at the coast. You just never know what you are going to get from minute to minute. It was nice to just get away!
One of our outings was to Ecola State Park.
We went to try and see the whales that are migrating at this time. No whales were seen, but we did take a little hike and had a beautiful view.
My parents came down for a couple of days. It was fun to spend time with them.
Here are some pictures of our trip...Enjoy!

Spring Break Snow

Spring break is 2 weeks long this year due to "furlough days". Our break was going to start on Friday, March 23rd, then it happened again. SNOW! We had snow on Wednesday Night and ended up with no school on Thursday before Spring break. Spring break came a day early. Here is what I woke up to.... beautiful white. Whooo Hooo for sleeping in! Boo Hoo!! For the amount of work I have to do the day we go back to school, I will for sure be heading in early to complete all the work I did not finish due to snow! O-well, it was all out of my control. What could I do, but enjoy? Happy Spring Break!

Madison and Taekwondo

The word Taekwondo itself is made up of three Chinese/Korean words: Tae, meaning to kick or jump; Kwon, meaning fist or hand; and Do, which means "the way." Loosely (if not literally), it can be thought of as "The Way of the Hand and Foot."
Madison is taking Taekwondo 2 times a week and she seems to really love it. I think it is a good sport for her. They really focus on not only the physical body but the mind and character as well. The instructor is great and he has a focus each week, such as self control, discipline, or perseverance. Madison is not only gaining strength, balance, technique, and focus she is learning to show respect and take responsibility for all of her actions in all areas of her life.
Maddie is on the far right in this picture.

Snow in March...Really??

Just when we thought Spring was on the way.... it snows. Surprise!
Our school district had a 2 hour late start so Maddie got a little play time in before heading to the bus stop. Peyton had her preschool canceled for the day. I will have to say it was a surprise to wake up at 2am and see so much snow on the ground. It was beautiful and peaceful... well, until the kids saw the snow! :)

3.5 inches! Not a lot for some....but enough for us!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Happy St. Patrick's Day! We wore our green today and enjoyed the traditional Corned Beef and Cabbage dinner with Bryan's Family! It was so yummy! We also made rainbows and pots of gold for all of the neighbor kids. The girls delivered them this afternoon.

Rainbow Twizzlers and Rolos.

New Art Work!

I asked the girls to make some new art for the playroom. We went and bought the canvases and they went to town. I had them paint their picture with black first. We then let them dry while we went to dinner at Bryan's Parents house. In the evening they filled in the color. I think the pictures turned out just great! I can't wait to get them on the wall!

Peyton made a flower garden!
Madison decided to paint Haystack Rock at Cannon Beach.
